A research collaborative at MIT’s School of Architecture and Planning conducting research and catalyzing actions at the intersection of human, natural, and digital systems toward equitable and enduring solutions.
In an era defined by rapid urbanization, accelerating biodiversity loss, and steady climate change, a new kind of research collaboration is needed — one that unites cities, nature and technology.
MIT Environmental Research + Action (ERA) aims to advance knowledge and create solutions that promote the sustainability of cities, enhance the protection and stewardship of ecosystems by local communities, and develop and deploy digital technologies for a humane, prosperous and climate safe future.
ERA represents a new model for environmental research and action engaging cities, the biosphere, and artificial intelligence as co-evolving systems delineating the trajectory of the planet in the 21st century.
ERA comprises three labs, UMERA, NACERA and SIERA.
